Spectator

She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

Tears run down her cheeks

As she observes

Them falling out of love. She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

Her mother threatens

To move out

And drag her and her sister along.

She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

As she notices

Her father didn’t do much

To stop her.

She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

Her didi tries

To mediate their fight

And it works for a minute.

She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

They put on their masks

And play the role

Of a perfect family yet again.

She stands, watching,

A spectator to the spectacle;

Tears run down her cheeks

As she realises

They’re never going to be the same.
